6G services coming to India before 2030, says PM Modi

Ahead of 5G services launching in India, 6G services have been promised to arrive before the end of this decade.

6G services are likely to reach India before the end of this decade! Yes, that is the claim made by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who further adds that Indian government is investing a lot in technology and that the youth of India should be ready to take its advantage. He also highlighted that the country is preparing to bring 5G services within this year, which was previously highlighted by the IT Minister.

Addressing the Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon 2022 via video conferencing, PM Modi said, “Young people can work on new solutions to promote the use of drone technology in the agriculture and health sector. We are also preparing to launch 6G by the end of this decade. We are encouraging Indian solutions in gaming and entertainment. The way the Indian government is investing in technology, every youth should take its advantage.”

Additionally, the Prime Minister asked the youth of the country to take advantage of optical fiber technology in every village. He also said that the country is readying to launch its 5G services. The government will also promote the gaming ecosystem.

“India is progressing rapidly through one revolution after another in the last 7-8 years. Today, digital and talent revolutions are taking place here. Aspirations and challenges will bring forth many opportunities for the young innovators in the country,” added the PM.

Specifics on the 6G technology are yet to be released but testing has already begun across the globe. While 5G promises speeds upto 20Gbps, 6G is expected to offer speeds of up to 1 Tbps. With such speeds, 6G services are likely to aid automated cars, Wi-Fi implants and more advanced technology of the future.

While 6G still seems to be a distant dream, it is the 5G services that India is preparing for at the moment. The Union telecom minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently announced that the 5G spectrum auctions have been completed and the nation’s telecom operators have been asked to deploy their 5G infrastructure soon. The minister recently said that we could be seeing the first commercial 5G networks going live by October 12.

“We are planning to roll out 5G services rapidly, telecom operators are working in that regard & installations are being done. Hopefully, we should be launching 5G services by October 12 & then would further scale up in cities & towns,” says the Minister.

5G services will promise faster internet speeds as well as more reliable connectivity across the nation. What remains to be seen is how the telecom operators go about pricing 5G plans. Many have hinted at premium pricing whereas some have mentioned affordable prices similar to 4G LTE plans.
