Each country has its own distinct culture, traditions, and languages that sets it apart from the others. Among the unique elements that define a nation, food is something that encapsulates and represents the tastes, preferences, and lifestyle of the people of the country. From pizza, and falafel to quintessential chaats, each country has a host of dishes to offer with varying yet delectable tastes. So today, on World Tourism Day (September 27), let us look at some of the most popular meals from around the world that you can introduce your taste buds to.

1) Tacos 

This Mexican dish is one of our favourites. And, what’s amazing about this dish is that it’s extremely versatile. Once you have the taco shells, you can fill it with several ingredients including vegetables, meats, legumes, grains, salads and enjoy.

2) Spaghetti in Pesto sauce

Yes, there’s so much more than just pizza as far as Italian food is concerned. For this, a nice pesto sauce is prepared first. This easy-peasy dish carries a beautiful blend of herbs, cheese, nuts and garlic.     

3) Thai curry

Not many would disagree that Thai cuisine has gained popularity all over. Thai curry is cooked with coconut milk or water, meat, seafood, vegetables or fruit, and herbs. It’s typically paired with sticky rice. There are varieties of Thai curries including – green curry, red curry and even yellow curry. Based on the ingredients used in all three, you can decide which one suits your taste.   

4) Bibimbap

Korean dramas have played a major role in making us familiar with the delicacies relished in that region. If you love Korean culture, you must try this one. It’s a hit rice dish that consists of white steamed rice garnished with sauteed vegetables, kimchi, gochujang (chilli pepper paste), soy sauce and egg. It’s colourful and truly appetising.

5) Falafel and Pita Bread 

Falafel and pita bread are light pocket sandwiches and popular snack enjoyed in the middle-east, especially in Lebanon. The meal, features chickpea fried balls stuffed between pita bread and served with dips like hummus, muhammara, baba ganoush or tahini sauce. It is a small package which hosts a mouthful of flavours that you must try.

6) Coq au vin

A classic French dish, Coq au vin is chicken braised with red wine, lardon, garlic, mushroom, and a bevy of vegetables. French cuisine is now for its delicate meals and Coq au vin is definitely listed at the top. So, if you want to try something French, ditch the fries and try the wholesome Coq au vin.
