Cyrus Mistry and a family friend, Jahangir Pandole, died in a car crash

The car in which Cyrus Mistry, the former Tata Sons Chairman, was travelling was driven by a well-known gynaecologist in Mumbai before it met with an accident, the police said.

  1. The car had two more passengers – Anahita’s husband Darius Pandole and a relative, Jahangir Pandole.

  2. Cyrus Mistry, 54, and Jahangir Pandole died in the car crash. Anahita, 55, and her husband Darius, 60, have been admitted to a hospital.

  3. Anahita is a well-known gynaecologist who is also one of the founders of Jio Parsi, an initiative to contain the decline of Parsi population. She is a campaigner against illegal hoardings.

  4. The Pandoles were family friends with the Mistrys.

  5. Anahita’s husband Darius heads JM Financial Private Equity. He was formerly an independent director in Tata group firms and had opposed the removal of Cyrus Mistry as Tata Sons Chairman. He left with Cyrus Mistry was ousted.

  6. The Pandole family owned Duke’s, a maker of soft drinks like Mangola. They sold the business to Pepsi over 20 years ago.

  7. One of the two brothers who sold the business to Pepsi was Dinshaw Pandole, who died last week.

  8. Cyrus Mistry, Dinshaw Pandole’s two sons and his daughter-in-law had been to Udwada, where the Parsis have their main “Fire Temple”, for prayers. The accident happened during their return.

  9. A forensic team is at the accident site to find out the sequence of events that led to the car crash.

  10. The police said CCTVs along the route will be checked.
