WhatsApp Communities is here! Know how your WhatsApp experience is going to change

WhatsApp Communities feature has finally started rolling out for some Android Beta testers. Know everything here.

After a long wait, WhatsApp’s Communities feature is finally here! Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg had introduced this group-related feature, Communities for WhatsApp back in April along with several other new features such as Emoji reactions, bigger file sharing, and much more. But what exactly does the WhatApp Communities feature mean? It is basically a unique place where you can find all related groups under one roof. And it is possible for you to join it by using a community invite link.

Now in the latest development, WhatsApp has finally introduced this Community feature to certain beta testers in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.19.3 update, WhatsApp’s update tracker WABetaInfo informed in its latest report. If you have received this update, then you will be able to find a new Communities tab that replaces the old Camera tab. How does it work? Have a look here.

This is how WhatsApp Communities feature will work

WABetaInfo has shared a screenshot which depicts that the new communities tab shows up instead of the camera tab. “If the communities tab is available (and we recommend killing and re-opening the app after the update to test it), you can already start creating a community by adding up to 10 groups: these groups are called “sub-groups” and they support up to 512 participants,” the report mentioned.

It further explained that the community member will have a choice of which sub-group to join based on their personal preferences. Also, you can stay in the community and choose to leave a particular sub-group. Moreover, Community admins will have the power to disable it, in case they don’t want to use it anymore, while other members can report the community to WhatsApp if it violates their terms of service.

Regarding privacy concerns, WhatsApp is working on hiding phone numbers in sub-groups of a community for now, so other members of the community cannot see your phone number, the report confirmed. Unfortunately, the feature is not included in the first version of WhatsApp Communities, and there are no even further details for the future release.
