Tata Tiago EV has been launched in India as the country’s most affordable EV car. Here is all you need to know.

The Tata Tiago EV has been launched finally! With a starting price of Rs. 8.49 lakhs, the Tiago EV becomes the most affordable electric car you can buy in India today. The Tiago is Tata Motors’ first hatchback with an electric powertrain, and the company claims an overall range of 315 Kms on a single charge, which is slightly higher than that of the Tigor EV. Customers can pre-book the Tiago EV starting October 10 and the first deliveries will begin from January 2023.

The Tiago EV is based on the same platform as the Tata Tiago hatchback, which has been available in India with an internal combustion petrol engine since years.

Tata Tiago EV price breakdown in India

The Tata Tiago EV is available in three powertrain variants, allowing customers to choose between different battery capacities and charging technology. The Tiago EV starts at Rs. 8.49 lakhs in India for the base variant and goes up to Rs. 11.79 lakhs for the top-end variant with a 24 kWh battery and 7.2 kWh AC fast charging. The introductory price is applicable only for the first 10,000 customers and Tata Motors may hike the prices later. Out of these, 2000 units are reserved for customers of Tata Motors EV range.

Tata Tiago Battery details and range

The Tata Tiago EV XE and XT variants comes with 19.2kWh battery pack and 3.3kWh AC charging. The XT, XZ+, and XZ+ Tech Lux variants also come with a 24kWh battery pack supporting the same 3.3kWh AC charging. Customers can also get the top XZ+ and XZ+ Tech Lux variant with 7.2kWh charging.

The electric motor is rated to produce 74 HP of power and 114 Nm torque. Tata Motors claims that the Tiago EV can manage a 0 to 60 kph time of 5.7 seconds, which is among the fastest cars in its segment. The battery and electric motor are rated IP67 for water and dust resistance. The 24kWh battery has a claimed range of 315 Kms, whereas the 19.2kWh battery pack can deliver a range of 250 Kms.

As for charging, Tata Motors claims that the Tiago EV can be charged from 10% to 80% in approximately 57 minutes using a DC fast charger.

Tata Tiago EV features

The design of the Tiago EV remains largely the same, except for the blue accents on the exterior as well as EV badges. The interior remains the same too, with blue accents on the dashboard to suggest this is an EV. The gear lever is replaced with a rotary dial for the drive modes, and you do not get a spare wheel.

The Tiago EV gets features such as auto climate control, rain-sensing wipers, auto headlamps, push button start/stop, cruise control, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, rear parking camera and seat belt reminder. It also gets multi-mode regen braking from the Nexon EV Max.
