“Yashasvi Jaiswal 179, Rest 158/6”: England Great’s Brutal Verdict On Indian Team | Cricket News

Former England captain Alastair Cook was all praise for India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal after his record unbeaten knock of 179 on Day 1 of the second Test in Visakhapatnam. Jaiswal single-handedly steered India to 336 for six by the end of play on Day 1 as rest of his teammates even failed to cross the 40-run mark. Speaking at the close of the day’s play, Cook, who led England to a Test series win in India in 2012, suggested that Jaiswal’s knock hid the hosts’ batting concerns.

‘He has been absolutely outstanding, Jaiswal. He is 179 not out, while the rest of the Indian team are technically 158-6, on a pretty good day one pitch. India’s fragile batting lineup is still there, but it has just been hidden by a quite superb innings when his side really needed him,” Cook said on TNT Sports.

Cook’s former teammate Kevin Pietersen also slammed the Indian batters for their approach, saying that England took the overall honours on Day 1 despite Jaiswal’s unbeaten knock.

“One thing we know about England is when they come out to bat, they are going to attack, score quickly and score positively. They are not going to come in and bat the way India have batted today. I think that has put England ahead in the game. I say that because there wasn’t any gremlin on the pitch on Day 1. The bounce was even and there wasn’t any crazy spin to make me feel that India should be more than 3 or 4 down,” Pietersen said on Jio Cinema.

“I wanted to play it session by session. When they were bowling well, I just wanted to get through that spell,” Jaiswal said after the end of play.

“Initially, the wicket was damp and there was spin and bounce, with a bit of seam. However, I wanted to convert the loose balls, and play till the end. I would love to double this up, and play till the end for the team.”

Meanwhile, Jaiswal scored his maiden double century on Saturday. He was dismissed on 209 as England bowled India out for 396 in the first innings.
