Watch: Video Of Noodle-Making In China Stirs Up Twitter Debate; Know More

Noodles are one of the most loved foods across the globe. They are easy to make and can be prepared in various combinations; with sauces, veggies, meat or in soup. Whether you’re running short of time or simply craving something delicious in the middle of the night – a hot bowl of noodles always comes to our rescue! And every country has its own variation of noodles. Be it ramen, udon, soba, vermicelli or glass – all of them define comfort in the true sense. However, have you ever wondered how noodles are actually made? Recently, in a video shared by former Norwegian diplomat Erik Solheim, one can see how noodles are traditionally prepared in Shaanxi, China.

In the clip posted on Twitter, we can see a chef carefully stretching noodles while swinging it. The video progresses to show various people stretching metre-long noodles before being vertically hung to dry from the roof. The noodles are then served in a delicious looking broth. “Historians discuss whether Italians invented noodles and brought them to China. Or it was vice versa? Traditional noodles in Shaanxi, China. The video of the noodle-making process in China has got over 20k views, hundreds of likes and several comments. Many people have expressed their views regarding the origin of noodles in the comments section. Take a look at some of the reactions: 

“Not sure if there are any historians arguing that Italians brought noodles to China. The debate seems to be usually about whether noodles went from China to Italy, or Italians had it on their own or from other Mediterranean countries.” 

“I am pretty certain that it was the other way round or independent.” 

“The consensus by most learned Italians is that Marco Polo brought the idea of noodles to Italy from China. Some claim convergent evolution.” 

“Take note that the Chinese don’t only have wheat noodles. They also have rice noodles, luosifen noodles, egg noodles, etc. There’s also an ancient relic found in one of the tombs which has an ancient noodle. It was being exhibited in a Chinese museum.”
