Watch: Food Blogger Makes Idli In Blue Colour; Internet Reacts

South Indian food has amassed fans all over the world. This humble snack is so popular that it has been reinvented in various forms to suit individuals’ taste preferences. From rice idli and sooji idli to stuffed idli – you can eat your favourite idli whichever way you like. We thought we have seen it all when it comes to idli varieties but this particular version stumped us. Have you ever seen a blue-colored idli before? We assume no one did and that’s why this blue idli video on Instagram has taken the internet by surprise. 

We are not new to the world of food experimentation but every now and then some unique creation astonishes us and this blue idli did the same. The recipe video of blue idli was posted by a food blogger on Instagram page @jyotiz kitchen. Now if you are wondering what the secret behind the attractive blue colour of the idlis is, let us tell you that it is not an artificial colour but organic homegrown blue pea flowers.

If you watch carefully, you’ll see the blogger plucking out the blue pea flowers from her home garden. The she discards the stems and leaves, cleans the flowers and boils them. The colour of the flower is infused in the boiling water. The water is strained to discard the flowers and the coloured water is added to the idli batter. Then the blogger proceeds to make the idlis as usual.  

The recipe video has been viewed more than eight lakh times and has garnered over 30k likes and hundreds of comments. Some of them are: 

“This flower is good for the brain and helps to maintain overall mental health well.” 

“These flowers possess medicinal properties so they are good for health.” 

“So creative! Thanks for the idea.” 

“Doremon idli” 

“You can add those flowers to your green tea as well. I add these flowers daily to my green tea.” 

Isn’t this a great idea to give your idlis an interesting makeover? However, this is not the only food she revamped. Earlier, she created blue modaks with the same trick.
