Apple goes to war over AI, snaps up over 30 startups in 2023, more than any other tech titan

[ad_1] Apple has always been quiet about its plans and new innovations and the same applies to artificial intelligence (AI). However, it looks like Apple was caught on the backfoot when most of the other big tech companies like Microsoft, Google, Meta and even OpenAI stole all the AI thunder over the last year. Now, Apple is looking, not just to catch up, but overtake everyone else and for that, it has gone on a warpath - an acquisition spree in order to ensure it conquers this new technology in every way. So, even as it's working on its AI initiatives in-house, it is being reported that Apple has gone on the warpath and gobbled up more than 30 AI startups last year, which is shockingly higher than any other tech giant's investment.Over the last year, Apple built its base with AI techno...

Big Tech in charge as ChatGPT turns one

[ad_1] A year after the history-making release of ChatGPT, the AI revolution is here, but the recent boardroom crisis at OpenAI, the super app's company, has erased any doubt that Big Tech is in charge. In some ways, the discreet reveal of ChatGPT on November 30 last year was the revenge of the geeks, the unsung researchers and engineers who have been quietly building generative AI behind the scenes. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, a well-known figure in technology circles, but still little known beyond that, with the release of ChatGPT made sure that this unheralded AI tech would get the attention it deserves. ChatGPT became the fastest adopted app in history (since taken over by Meta's Threads) as users marveled at the generation of poems, recipes -- or whatever the internet could muster -- in ...

[ad_1] Microsoft will stop packaging its Teams videoconferencing app with its Office software in Europe in an effort to head off antitrust penalties by regulators. The tech giant also said Thursday that it would take steps to make it easier for competing products to work alongside its software. The announcement comes a month after the European Union's executive Commission, the 27-nation bloc's top competition enforcer, opened a formal investigation over concerns that bundling Teams with Office gives the company an unfair edge over competitors. The investigation was triggered by a complaint filed in 2020 by Slack Technologies, maker of popular workplace messaging software.Slack, owned by business software maker Salesforce, alleged that Microsoft was abusing its market dominance to elimina...

Italian watchdog OKs Google’s commitments to end data case

[ad_1] Italy's AGCM competition watchdog said on Monday it had accepted commitments proposed by Google to end a case over the tech giant's alleged abuse of its dominant position in the user data portability market. The regulator opened the investigation last year following a complaint from Italian startup Hoda which accused Google of hindering the right of the U.S. company's users to share their personal data with other digital service platforms. In response to the probe, Google proposed some changes to its data backup service in order to enhance users' ability to extract their personal data from the Alphabet unit's services, the regulator said in a statement. The company also pledged to make available a test version of a tool it is developing to enable other digital service operators...
