The Indian government has restricted the imports of items such as laptops, tablets, and servers with immediate effect, it said in a notice issued on Thursday. Announcing this crackdown, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry notified, “Import of Laptops, Tablets, All-in-one Personal Computers, and Ultra small form factor Computers and Servers falling under HSN 8741 shall be 'Restricted' and their import would be allowed against a valid Licence for Restricted Imports.”Previously, the import of items such as personal computers, microcomputers, automatic data processing machines, and mainframe computers did not carry any duty to be paid.
