Shubman Gill Fears His Father Will “Pull Him Up” Despite Ton Against England. Here’s Why | Cricket News

Shubman Gill was the star of play on the third day of the ongoing second Test match between India and England in Visakhapatnam. Struggling to score runs in the format, the right-handed batter kicked away all his worries with a well-knit 104 off 147 balls. He joined hands with Shreyas Iyer to take India out of trouble in their second innings. The hosts were reeling at 30 for 2 but Gill along with Iyer stitched an 81-run stand to keep the side on top. While Iyer departed, Gill took his innings deep and scored a century.

While a lot of former cricketers are praising him for the knock he played under pressure, Gill fears that his father might “pull him up” for the way he was dismissed.

Gill tried to play a reverse sweep on the bowling of England spinner Shoaib Bashir. He failed to execute the shot properly but the ball grazed his glove before wicketkeeper Ben Foakes took a sharp catch.

While talking about the dismissal with former India head coach Ravi Shastri, Gill admitted that his father is most likely to pull him up.

“I think so,” Gill told Jio Cinema.

“I’ll get to know once I get back to the hotel but I think so. He comes for most of my games, there’s no such pressure,” he added.

India’s questionable batting approach left the door ajar for England’s ‘bazballers’ to go for a record yet achievable 399-run target in the second Test on Sunday.

The hosts once again allowing their fearless opponents to come back into the game.

Like the series opener, India had the opportunity to bat the Englishmen out of the match after Gill’s century but their inexplicable batting approach in the final session of third day raised the visiting team’s hopes.

India ended with 255 all out in their second innings.

On expected lines, England came out attacking through openers Zak Crawley (29 batting off 50) and Ben Duckett (28) before R Ashwin had the left-hander caught in his first over.

England ended at 67 for one at stumps with Crawley and night watchman Rehan Ahmed (9 batting) in the centre, still needing for 332 runs for a famous victory.
