iOS 16 is expected to get its first major features update this month, adding lots to your iPhone.

So you have been enjoying iOS 16 on your iPhone and after tweaking your lockscreen with those cool effects, you are bored, aren’t you? Thankfully, Apple is bringing more stuff to your iPhone to keep your interest alive. After almost a month since its rollout, Apple could be releasing the iOS 16.1 update soon and while it looks like just a version number update, it brings some of the most talked about features of the new operating system. iPhone users, you will like what all is coming your way.

After the initial release of features and updates, iOS 16 will now bring some of the new convenience features Apple showcased at the launch event a few months ago at the WWDC event. Dubbed the iOS 16.1 update, it will be coming to all iPhones currently running on the iOS 16 version and is also expected to fix the major bugs and issues.

Live Activities

Live Activities will be a big thing for iPhones over the coming weeks. The feature will open up new notifications on the lockscreen as well as the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 Pro models, showing real-time information from apps. Hence, your Uber app as well as Swiggy app will be able to show delivery tracking details on the lockscreen, without you needing to open the app.

On the iPhone 14 Pro models, Live Activities are integrated into the Dynamic Island, and will even show on the Always On display. However, app developers will need to update their apps to utilise it properly.

Redesigned Battery indicator

Your iPhone will now be showing a better and improved battery indicator. So far, the indicator remained static with the percentage showing on the top corner. Now, the indicator will show a visual sign of the battery percentage. Additionally, the battery icon and charging icon will also be shown on the lockscreen time widget while putting the iPhone in charging, or while waking up the screen when charged. Additionally, iOS 16.1 update will also bring battery meter on iPhone XR, iPhone 11, and the two Mini models.

Pre-load in-app content

With iOS 16.1, apps and games will now be able to pre-load the app content before the app is opened on the iPhone. Hence, your newly downloaded or game will start downloading the in-app files and content automatically. By the time you open the app or the game, it will be ready for you to jump in directly. The feature can be enabled from the Settings menu.
