Food Delivery Agent Asks For Fuel Money To Deliver Order, Internet Reacts

Getting fresh food delivered right to your doorstep feels like a blessing. From ice creams and drinks to noodles and curries, today you can order anything using food delivery apps. Besides everyone working at eateries, it is the delivery executives who help satiate our food cravings even at the odd hours of the day. Hence, you would find many people paying tips to the delivery agents as token of appreciation. But what will you do if your delivery person asks for money to add fuel to the vehicle to bring your order? Sounds bizzare, right? This is exactly what seemed to have happened to a person in the United States, who shared the whole incident in a Twitter thread eliciting varying reactions on the platform.
Sharing screenshots of his exchange with the Uber Eats driver, the customer wrote, “This Uber Eats driver just asked me to CashApp him gas money to bring my food to me”. The driver, in his message, told the customer that he was running low on fuel and asked for “a few bucks for gas”. He added, “I had no idea you were that far”.

The customer said that the driver called him five times adding that it was “harassment”. Urging the customer to transfer the money, the driver said he was stuck on the highway and wouldn’t be able to reach the address without fuel.

Later, the food delivery person managed to arrive at the location, but the customer said that he wasn’t feeling “safe taking the order”. The customer even said that he was about to call police on the driver. The delivery person asked the customer to collect the order and eventually left it outside his residence. “He’s finally left it on the ground outside like trash. Mmmm tasty,” the customer wrote.

Taking note of the incident, Uber replied to the customer’s tweet and said, “Thank you for bringing this to our attention – behavior like this is definitely not OK!”

Users, meanwhile, were left divided as some believed that paying the driver for fuel was not appropriate while others said that the customer should have transferred the money.
“You could’ve sent bro $3. He probably couldn’t cancel the order. They also don’t tell you how far the drive is until after you accept it,” a person wrote.  

“The request was unprofessional, but you handled the situation poorly. It was not necessary to escalate to the point of threatening to call police on your Uber Eats driver,” a comment read.

Another user said, “He made it to his house and tossed his food. Obviously he had the gas and this was a scam”.

“I wouldn’t have called the police but I would have definitely reported him to Uber Eats or whatever platform that was,” a person reacted.
