Bhindi Noodles: Love It Or Hate It, Internet Can’t Stop Talking About It

Weird food combinations can be a subjective topic. What some people may find bizarre and unappealing, others may find simply unusual and interesting. Sometimes, it’s a question of individual taste. Sometimes it can also be a matter of ignorance. For instance, a Twitter post last week on aamras puri revealed that some people had never heard of this pairing before. But, as many users also pointed out, the combo is a popular one in western states of India (Read more here). Nowadays, we come across unconventional food items almost every day online. Some polarise foodies, while others unite them in their anger. Experiments with nationally beloved dishes seem to be more likely to be criticised. But this is not always the case, as a recent post about “bhindi noodles” shows.

Twitter user @satabdisambedna shared a photo of this unique dish and captioned it, “Tried some bhendi (bhindi/okra/ladies fingers) noodles. Yangon, Myanmar.” From the image, we can deduce that these noodles were from Chilli Pot Mala Xiang Guo, a restaurant in Myanmar. Other veggies such as baby corn can also be observed with the noodles, but the three bhindi pieces stand out. The generous garnish of coriander leaves also catches the eye. Check out the pic below.

Wondering what she thought of the dish? In the comments, the Twitter user revealed that she found it “delicious.” Another user was especially interested in the dish and wrote, “Amazing! Never imagined Bhindi in this way. Is it cooked with the noodles or separately since it takes time?” In reply, the author of the original post explained that “So at this joint, one is supposed to select their pick of vegetables/meat and send it to the kitchen. The bhindi and other vegetables were sautĆ©ed together and the noodles were added later. Wasn’t too raw but also not too cooked. Also learnt that bhindi is eaten raw by locals.” Here’s what the other person replied:
