Apple is once again rumoured to remove clickable buttons from the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Apple is going to remove ONE more thing from the iPhone this year. The iPhone 15 series is rumoured to bring a couple of mega changes after a rather disappointing iPhone 14 series announcement from 2022. There will be four new models and Apple is said to establish a wider gap between the standard and Pro models to justify a price hike for the latter. That means Apple has to bring in a lot of innovation to the Pro models and one of those innovations is the removal of the buttons.

Yes, after removing the 3.5mm headphone jack and the charger from the packaging box, the iPhone is now set to lose its clickable buttons. Based on a new tip from noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will lose the buttons for power and volume control. Instead, Apple will settle for capacitive buttons that will get their own Taptic feedback engine.

iPhone 15 Pro big leak released

“My latest survey indicates that high-end iPhone 15 models will feature solid-state buttons and will equip with additional Taptic Engines to simulate the feel of physical buttons’ force feedback,” says Kuo in his latest post.

“As the exclusive supplier of Taptic Engine’s controller IC for solid-state buttons, Cirrus Logic stands to benefit markedly from this new design. If users respond well to this new design, I think it may be adopted in other high-end models of product lines in the future,” he added.

This isn’ the first time that a capacitive solution on the side buttons has happened. Google was the first one to use something similar on its Pixel devices, using it to measure pressure to summon Google Assistant. The HTC U1 also used the same treatment to summon the Google Assistant. However, these phones had buttons and the iPhones won’t have any. This leads us to wonder how one can lock and unlock the phone.

On the other hand, solid state buttons will allow for better water and dust resistance, and enhance the aesthetics as well.
