Uday Saharan-led Indian cricket team will be taking on Australia in the final of Under-19 World Cup 2024 at Willowmoore Park, Benoni on Sunday. It will be a ninth apperance for India in the summit clash of the event. Out of the eight matches played so far, the side won five and lost three. Notably, India are the most successful team in the history of the tournament. Australia, with three titles, are the second best team on the list. Here is a look at India’s performance in the finals of Under-19 World Cup so far –

2000: This was the first time India made it to the summit clash of the event. Under the captaincy of Mohammad Kaif, India registered a one-sided victory over Sri Lanka in Colombo. After getting an invitation to bowl first, India bundled out Sri Lanka for 178 and then chased down the total in 40.4 overs with 6 wickets in hand. Yuvraj Singh was also a part of that Indian team.

2006: This India’s second appearance in the final of Under-19 World Cup but unlike the last time, the result didn’t go in their favour as they suffered a 38-run loss at hands of arch-rivals Pakistan in Colombo. Ravikant Shukla was the captain of the Indian side that had the likes of Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ravindra Jadeja, Piyush Chawla. Pakistan posted 109 all out after electing to bat first and then bowled India out for 71.

2008: This was the third time India entered the final of Under-19 World Cup. The side handed a 12-run loss (DLS method) to its opponent South Africa in Kuala Lumpur. Virat Kohli-led India posted a total of 159 all out before restricting the Proteas to 103 for 8. Stars like Saurabh Tiwary, Manish Pandey, Ravindra Jadeja and Siddarth Kaul were also part of the Indian team.

2012: India won the title for the third time, beating Australia in the summit clash in Townsville. India restricted Australia at 225 for 8 after electing to bowl first. The side then chased down the target in 47.4 overs with 6 wickets in hand, thanks to captain Unmukt Chand‘s 111 not out. Hanuma Vihari and Sandeep Sharma were also the part of the winning Indian team.

2016: From this edition, India have consecutively managed to make it to the final of Under-19 World Cup so far. Getting an invitation to bat first against West Indies in Mirpur, Ishan Kishan-led India posted 145 only to see their opponents chase it down in 49.3 overs. Rishabh Pant, Washington Sundar, Sarfaraz Khan, Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan were among the star players in the team.

2018: This final against Australia at Mount Maunganui was truly dominated by India. Electing to bat first, Australia posted 216 before India chased it down in 38.5 overs. Prithvi Shaw was the captain of the Indian side that had the likes of Shubman Gill and Shivam Mavi.

2020: In this low-scoring thriller in Potchefstroom, India suffered a three-wicket loss (DLS method) at the hands of Bangladesh. Getting an invitation to bat first in the summit clash, India were bowled out for 177 before Bangladesh chased down the revised target of 170 in 42.1 overs. Priyam Garg was the captain of the Indian side that had stars like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Dhruv Jurel and Ravi Bishnoi.

2022: India defeated England in the summit clash this time to win a record-extending fifth title. Electing to bat first, England posted 189 all out before the Yash Dhull-led side chased it down in 47.4 overs. Players like Rajvardhan Hangargekar and Raj Bawa were also part of the side.
