100-Year-Old Dairy Milk Wrapper Found By UK Woman While Renovating Home

Chocolate has been a precious part of all our childhood days. Some liked it creamy and milky, while others preferred the nutty and dark versions. No matter which flavour of chocolate you liked, a bar of chocolate bought instant happiness that no dessert can replace. So, imagine the surprise and pleasure that a UK woman experienced when she found a 100-year-old Dairy Milk wrapper in her home! Emma Young was renovating her home and ripping up the floorboards when she spotted a dark purple wrapper amidst the rubble. It turned out to be a giant wrapper of a bar of Dairy Milk. “Chocolate Neapolitan” read the wrapper and it also mentioned that it was made in the garden village of Bourneville, England.

The UK woman realised that the wrapper must be quite old since the packaging seemed to be looking quite classic and vintage, although it was in very good condition. Just one side of the wrapper was nibbled by rats, but the rest of it was completely intact. “There’s no chocolate inside, someone’s had the treasure. It’s an obvious sleeve, I think the bar inside would have slid out,” she told Metro UK.

She reached out to Cadbury to confirm and they revealed that this Dairy Milk was manufactured between the years 1930 to 1934. Thus, the wrapper was nearly 100 years old! “The house was built around 1932 and given its age and that the chocolate was only around 1930-34, I’m wondering if it was a builder having a snack that left it,” she said.

“We were delighted to see the joy that this piece of Cadbury history has brought! As the nation’s favourite chocolate brand, Cadbury has a rich heritage and has been part of British culture and heritage for almost 200 hundred years,” said a Cadbury spokesperson. These 1930s Dairy Milk Neopolitans are a reminder that our chocolate plays a cherished role in people’s lives and we’re thrilled to hear that this particular discovery will be treasured forever,” he added.

This is not the only food-related discovery that has been made in the recent past. A couple of weeks ago, US-Italian archaeologists discovered a 5000-year-old fridge in Southern Iraq. The site dated back to 2700 BC. Click here to read more about this story.
