IPL 2024: BCCI secretary Jay Shah talks to Ishan Kishan© Twitter
Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, two Mumbai Indians players who grabbed the maximum limelight were captain Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan. Hardik Pandya’s appointment in place of Rohit Sharma made a lot of noise. Ishan Kishan’s case was different. His sudden break from India’s Tour of South Africa was much discussed as was his missing Ranji Trophy matches for Jharkhand. This despite Indian cricket team head coach Rahul Dravid telling that Ishan Kishan needs to play some form of domestic cricket.
What followed was BCCI secretary Jay Shah telling that playing domestic cricket is of utmost cricket. Ishan Kishan was also dropped from BCCI’s latest list of centrally contracted players.
In an interesting turn of events, Ishan Kishan and Jay Shah met after Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians IPL 2024 game in Ahmedabad on Sunday. The internet had some interesting speculation on the meet.

Ishan Kishan’s horrible run of form continued as he was dismissed for a four-ball duck during Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2024 match against Gujarat Titans on Sunday. Kishan has struggled to score runs in the past few matches and once again, he was not able to score big. Kishan faced just four balls in the match before he was dismissed by Azmatullah Omarzai in the first over of the Mumbai Indians innings. Kishan ended up playing away from his body while tackling an out-swinger from Omarzai and Wriddhiman Saha completed the catch comfortably.
Rahul Dravid recently broke silence his silence on Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan making a comeback into the Indian cricket team.
“They are always in the mix. Everyone who is playing cricket and domestic cricket is in the mix. I don’t decide contracts. It’s the board and selectors who decide it. I don’t even know what the criteria is. People ask my opinion on the 15, me and Rohit pick the XI. We never discuss whether a player has contract or not, whether he is going to be picked . There are enough examples of people players in different formats of the game whether they have contracts or not,” Dravid said in a post-match press conference after the fifth India vs England test.
“I sometimes don’t even know who are in the list of contracted players when we make these decision. Nobody is out of the mix. It’s a question of them getting fit, getting back playing cricket and forcing the selectors to pick them again.”
