“Households Waste At Least One Billion Meals A Day”, Reveals UN Report

[ad_1] The United Nations Environment Programme's (UNEP) Food Waste Index Report 2024 was released recently. It revealed that the world wasted one-fifth of the total food available in 2022. This amounts to 1.05 billion tonnes (or 19 per cent) of food available to consumers "at the retail, food service, and household level." At the same time, 783 million people around the world suffer chronic hunger and a third of the world's population faces food insecurity. The report showed that households are the key culprit when it comes to overall food wastage. Also Read: Colombia Introduces World's First 'Junk Food Law' To Prevent Lifestyle Diseases: Reports"The equivalent of at least one billion meals of edible food is being wasted in households worldwide every single day, using a very conservative...

Social impact at scale with thoughtful APIs groomed with good design

[ad_1] Navanwita Bora Sachdev is a freelance contributor and the Editor of The Tech Panda. The consequences of using Application Programming Interfaces (API) are undoubtedly far reaching, something that could be heaven sent for dispersing information and services on a large scale. Groomed with good design, thoughtful APIs for Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) could transform a society into a well-informed entity. APIs are often called the unsung heroes a user doesn't know about. Few users know just how many APIs are serving their needs in even the simplest of digital contractions, whether it's hailing an Uber, making a peer-to-peer payment, or communicating with a company via WhatsApp. APIs even drive streaming services like Netflix. In each of these, the customer-facing compa...

The finding was a part of 'Food Waste Index Report 2021' released by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). "The evidence is becoming too hard to ignore. Food systems reform is critical to tackling the planetary crisis of climate change, nature and biodiversity loss and pollution and waste," the report reads. The repor...

(Representational)United Nations: Full gender equality will take almost 300 years to achieve at the current rate of progress, the United Nations warned in a report released Wednesday, saying multiple current crises have aggravated disparities."At the current rate of progress, the report estimates that it will take up to 286 years to close gaps in legal protection and remove discriminatory laws, 140 years for women to be represented equally in positions of power and leadership in the workplace, and at least 40 years to achieve equal representation in national parliaments," said UN Women, which compiled the study. That is very far from the goal of reaching gender equality by 2030, as set out in the UN Sust...
