Voyager Space and Airbus deepen tie-up on new space station

[ad_1] U.S. space venture company Voyager Space and Airbus said on Wednesday they will co-operate more closely in the race to build a private version of the International Space Station. The two companies announced plans in January for Airbus to provide design support for Voyager's Starlab, one of three projects pre-selected by NASA to draw up plans for a potential commercial successor to the ISS. On Wednesday, they said Airbus would become a core partner in a newly planned venture to develop, build, and operate the orbital research post, expanding Europe's role in the project. The size of the shareholdings and financial details were not disclosed. Voyager Space also declined to discuss funding plans.Starlab is one of three private concepts designed to replace the aging ISS, a football fi...

NASA power outage temporarily halts contact with space station

[ad_1] A NASA power outage disrupted communication between Mission Control and the International Space Station on Tuesday.Mission Control couldn't send commands to the station and talk with the seven astronauts in orbit. The power outage hit as upgrade work was underway in the building at Houston's Johnson Space Center. Space station program manager Joel Montelbano said neither the astronauts nor station were ever in any danger and that backup control systems took over within 90 minutes. The crew was notified of the problem through Russian communication systems, within 20 minutes of the outage. It's the first time NASA has had to fire up these backup systems to take control, according to Montelbano. He said NASA hoped to resolve the issue and be back to normal operations by the end of t...

NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day 17 June 2023: Earth at night from ISS

[ad_1] An impressive number of over 14,000 satellites have been successfully launched into near-Earth orbit, United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs data revealed. Low Earth Orbit refers to a space region situated less than 1000 kilometers above the Earth's surface. It is a preferred orbit for satellites due to its close proximity to Earth and the array of benefits it offers for various applications. Among the well-known things in this orbit is the International Space Station (ISS), a habitable space station renowned for its role as a laboratory for scientific research and fostering international cooperation.NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day for June 17 is a timelapse video of a serene sequence of Earth at night captured by the International Space Station in 2017. Meet NASA’s next four astronauts headed to the Moon

[ad_1] On April 3, 2023, NASA announced the four astronauts who will make up the crew of Artemis II, which is scheduled to launch in late 2024.The Artemis II mission will send these four astronauts on a 10-day mission that culminates in a flyby of the Moon. While they won't head to the surface, they will be the first people to leave Earth's immediate vicinity and be the first near the Moon in more than 50 years. This mission will test the technology and equipment that's necessary for future lunar landings and is a significant step on NASA's planned journey back to the surface of the Moon. As part of this next era in lunar and space exploration, NASA has outlined a few clear goals. The agency is hoping to inspire young people to get interested in space, to make the broader Artemis progra...
