The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is nowhere close to announcing the squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 but rumours about Rinku Singh‘s selection for the marquee tournament are already afloat on social media. The reason is the young batter’s trip to Dharamsala where the members of India’s Test team are already present for the 5th and final Test against England, starting Match 07. Though Rinku hasn’t joined the Indian Test squad in Dharamsala for the final match of the series, he allegedly was called up for a pre-T20 World Cup photoshoot with the team.

Though there’s no such confirmation from the BCCI, the timing of the trip and his performances do hint that the rumours spreading like wildfire on social media could be true.

With the England Tests being Team India’s final assignment before the T20 World Cup, this is indeed the best opportunity for the BCCI to get a photoshoot done with its potential players for the showpiece event.

After the conclusion of the England series, the players will join their respective franchises for th 2-month long Indian Premier League. It also has to be remembered that the BCCI selection committee wouldn’t have time to announce the squad post-completion of the IPL. The roster will be finalised mid-way through the tournament.

During the visit, Rinku was also snapped with England head coach Brendon McCullum, who was also the coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders before taking up the England Test team job.

Rinku has been phenomenal for the Indian team, getting callups for the ODI and T20I sides. In T20Is, he is averaging a whopping 89 with the bat despite playing the role of a finisher. He has struck a total of 356 runs with the bat at a strike-rate of 176.24 so far, with 2 fifties to his name.
