What you need:
For 2 cups of masoor dal, use 1 cup of rice or urad dal as the second batter ingredient. Choose ginger, heeng (asafoetida), dried red chillies, fenugreek seeds, pepper, etc. to flavour the batter as required. For extra texture and colour, you can add grated carrots. You will also need oil to cook the dosas.
How to prepare:
- Wash and soak masoor dal and rice/ urad dal separately for a few hours.
- Later, drain the lentils and add them to a blender along with the spices of your choice.
- Add salt to taste and water to get the required consistency for a dosa. Blend to form a smooth batter.
- The batter can be used without fermentation if you wish. Ladle the batter onto a heated tawa greased with oil.
- Spread it evenly to form a thin dosa. Cook on both sides until light brown.
- Serve hot with coconut or tomato chutney.
