India great Sunil Gavaskar has compared the batting skills of Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz to that of MS Dhoni. Gavaskar added that he likes the batting of the Afghan star as it “slightly” similar to Dhoni’s. Gurbaz, who opens the batting for Afghanistan, has played 37 ODIs and 49 T20Is for the side, scoring over 1200 runs in each format. In T20s, Gurbaz has a strike rate of 148.60. Talking about MS Dhoni, he called time on his international cricket career in 2020. He is among the few batters to score over 10 thousand ODI runs.
“I have liked Gurbaz’s batting a lot based on whatever I have seen. He is extremely aggressive, and his batting is like a slight copy of MS Dhoni, and that is why I probably like it,” Gavaskar told Star Sports as quoted by Sportskeeda.
In a heart-warming gesture after Afghanistan’s campaign at Cricket World Cup 2023, Gurbaz was spotted helping the needy people on the side of the street in Ahmedabad at 3 am. In a viral clip, the Afghanistan star could be seen giving money to the needy people, who were sleeping on the side of the street.
The video of Gurbaz’s act was also shared by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) — the team he plays for in the Indian Premier League.
“From working tirelessly to raise money for the victims of the Herat Earthquake in Afghanistan earlier this month, to this act of kindness in a foreign land – you inspire us all. God bless you, jaani,” wrote KKR while sharing the video.
Speaking about the video, Gavaskar said, “When the World Cup ended, after that, the job he did, he gave money to the people sleeping on the footpath. For doing that, he has to definitely be in the team for me.”
