Apple has finally lifted the curtain on the highly anticipated iOS 17, revealing a range of significant updates that are set to redefine the user experience. With this latest release, Apple aims to enhance functionality and introduce fresh features that will captivate users.

They have exceeded initial expectations by offering not only bug fixes and performance enhancements but also an array of exciting features. While it lacks a central “tentpole feature” like the revamped Lock Screen in the previous iOS 16 update, Apple has dedicated considerable resources to the development of xrOS, the operating system designed specifically for their upcoming AR/VR headset.

iOS 17 is now official

Your phone’s contact book is getting an upgrade with a cool new feature called “posters.” This feature transforms your contact information into eye-catching, marquee-like images that appear in full-screen on the recipient’s iPhone when you call them. Another exciting addition is the live transcription feature for voicemail. It allows you to view a real-time transcript of the message left by a caller. You can choose to listen to the message or answer the call right away.

In the messaging department, there are some notable updates as well. Voice messages can now be transcribed, similar to what was introduced in the Pixel 7 series. Additionally, there’s a set of new features called “Check In” that help you share your live location and status with someone you’re planning to meet. Stickers have also been revamped, allowing you to add any emoji or photo cutout as a “sticker” within iMessages or anywhere in the system.

AirDrop also received an update, introducing a cleverly named feature called “NameDrop.” This feature enables you to easily share your selected email addresses, phone numbers, and posters with another iPhone simply by bringing the two devices near each other. The same method can now be used to share photos, and even if the file is large, you can move out of range while the download continues.

iOS 17 includes keyboard updates as well, including improvements to autocorrect. The feature now relies on a new language model and offers a convenient shortcut to revert back to the original word you typed, if needed. Dictation also benefits from a new AI model for enhanced performance.
