Elon Musk: ‘AI stresses me out’

Elon Musk has clashed often with securities regulators and highway safety authorities, but there's one area the Tesla and Twitter chief says the government should regulate now: Artificial Intelligence. "AI stresses me out," Musk said near the end of a more than three-hour presentation to Tesla investors about company plans. Tesla's own ambitious artificial intelligence efforts had a featured role in the presentation of Musk's "Master Plan 3", the third part of a series of papers on how to expand Tesla and convert the world to clean energy. There was a video of a Optimus humanoid robot, being developed by Tesla, manipulating parts of other Optimus robots as if it intended to assemble replicas of itself. Executives gave detailed presentations about how Tesla is using artificial i...

Tesla’s $310 Billion Surge Sets High Bar for Elon Musk’s Master Plan

Tesla's stock tends to do well when the electric-car maker is growing like gangbusters and Elon Musk is thrilling fans about a brighter future. The chief executive officer has shaken off a forgettable 2022 of slower expansion and Twitter diversion by slashing prices and scheduling another showcase of Tesla's outlook for the next few years. The moves have worked, at least for the time being. Demand picked back up after Tesla discounted models across its lineup by as much as 20%, and the Musk faithful are frenzied about the master plan he'll deliver Wednesday at the company's factory in Austin, Texas. Tesla shares have soared from the two-year low they plumbed in early January, adding roughly $310 billion of market value and returning Musk to the top of the Bloomberg Billionaires I...

Sorry, Twitter! Elon Musk Found His Next Shiny Object

For all his childish behavior on Twitter, Elon Musk would still like us to believe in his noble ambitions to make the world a better place. His space exploration company will make humans an interplanetary species, electric car maker Tesla Inc. will move us toward sustainable energy and his newly acquired Twitter will become a haven of free speech and healthy debate. Actually that last goal isn't going so well. Twitter stands little hope of becoming a financial or cultural success under Musk as he continues to drain the online platform of talent, revenue sources and integrity. His latest antic has been to deflect criticism of Dilbert creator Scott Adams for a bizarre and racially offensive tirade on YouTube and blame “the media” for being racist instead. Luckily a new mission has ...

Elon Musk recruits team to develop OpenAI’s ChatGPT rival – The Information

Elon Musk has approached AI researchers in recent weeks about forming a new research lab to develop an alternative to OpenAI's ChatGPT, the Information reported on Monday, citing people with direct knowledge of the effort. Tesla and Twitter chief Musk has been recruiting Igor Babuschkin, a researcher who recently left Alphabet's DeepMind AI unit, the report said. The report comes after ChatGPT, a text-based chatbot developed by OpenAI that can draft prose, poetry or even computer code on command, gained widespread attention in Silicon Valley. Musk, who had co-founded OpenAI along with Silicon Valley investor Sam Altman in 2015 as a nonprofit startup, had left its board in 2018, but chimed in with his take on the chatbot, calling it "scary good". Musk and Babuschkin have discus...

Elon Musk Has Turned Tesla’s ‘Failing’ Into Winning

Anyone Googling the phrase “Tesla failed” is immediately inundated with the purported shortcomings of the multinational automotive and clean energy company's zero-emission, electric vehicles, workplace culture, business practices, occupational safety and, especially, its controversial Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk. In times like these, it's appropriate to recall what Gertrude tells her son Hamlet in Shakespeare's most famous play: “The lady doth protest too much, methinks.” When it comes to Tesla Inc., such criticism is little more than a sideshow. No other carmaker comes close to matching its performance, which includes posting record revenue each year since it began reporting financial results in 2007. With a stock market value of $659 billion as of Friday, Tesla is worth mor...

Mark Zuckerberg May Have Better Luck With Elon Musk’s ‘Blue Tick’

Three months ago, Elon Musk announced an $11 monthly subscription service to give Twitter users a blue verification check mark. On Sunday, Meta Platforms Inc. announced largely the same thing: a $15 subscription service(1) for users to get a blue verified badge,(2) so long as they provide a government-issued ID. Meta Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg is a shameless copycat. He cloned Snapchat's Stories feature (even calling it “Facebook Stories”), launched a copy of TikTok called Reels and imitated the live video app Periscope with Facebook Live. The strategy works. Many of these clones, like Stories and Reels, take off successfully on Instagram. This will likely be the case with Zuckerberg's new subscription service, even though at first glance it looks incredibly off-pu...

‘Someone else’ could be running Twitter this year, says Musk

Twitter boss Elon Musk said Wednesday that a new CEO might be running the online platform by the end of 2023, after a "rollercoaster" ride since he took full ownership last year."I'm guessing probably towards the end of this year should be good timing to find someone else to run the company," he told the World Government Summit conference in Dubai via video. "I need to stabilise the organisation and make sure it's in a healthy place and that the product roadmap is clearly laid out.... I think it should be in a stable position around the end of this year." Musk paid $44 billion for his favourite social media platform and exiting day-to-day operations would allow him to deflect criticism that he is neglecting his other ventures, especially electric car company Tesla. The founder of TESLA...

Elon Musk Nears World’s Richest Title Again

Elon Musk is closing in on recapturing his title as the world's richest person since falling behind Bernard Arnault in December, thanks to Tesla Inc.'s 70% rise this year. It may take a bit longer for Musk to overtake the French luxury-goods titan, though, after disclosing this week he gave 11.6 million Tesla shares to unnamed charitable causes between August and December. The stock was worth about $1.9 billion, based on closing prices on the days Musk donated the securities. The disclosure comes as Musk, 51, has narrowed the gap to Arnault to less than $10 billion amid signs of growing demand for Tesla's electric vehicles. He now has a fortune of about $184 billion after his latest donation, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. That's down from a peak of more than $3...
