NASA to unearth mysteries of Moon with the launch of Nova-C lunar lander; Know all about this Artemis mission

NASA's Artemis mission has embarked on a journey to the Moon with the launch of Intuitive Machines' Nova-C lunar lander, named Odysseus, aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 1:05 a.m. EST. This initiative, part of NASA's CLPS (Commercial Lunar Payload Services) program and the broader Artemis campaign aims to deliver a suite of science instruments and technology demonstrations to our nearest celestial neighbor.Unveiling the Lunar EnvironmentAccording to the US Space Agency, the Nova-C lander is equipped with a range of payloads designed to study various aspects of the lunar surface environment and test technologies critical for future lunar exploration missions. These payloads will provide insights into plume-surface interactions, space weather...

Prada to the Moon: Fashion brand to work on next-generation spacesuits for NASA

Astronauts on an upcoming NASA mission will head to the moon in style, decked out in Prada spacesuits. The Italian fashion label will work with Axiom Space on the next generation of lunar spacesuits to be used for NASA's Artemis III mission planned for 2025, the companies said in a statement Wednesday. Artemis III will be the first manned lunar landing since Apollo 17 in 1972 and will include one female crew member. In choosing a design partner for its Extravehicular Mobility Unit suit, space station developer Axiom cited Prada's technical expertise with raw materials, manufacturing techniques as well as “innovative design concepts.” Engineers from the label owned by Prada SpA will work with Axiom teams throughout the design process and will develop solutions for materials and design fe...

Life on our Moon! NASA scientist points towards astonishing mystery

In contrast to Earth's vibrant ecosystems, the moon has long been perceived as a barren and lifeless celestial body, devoid of water and signs of vitality. However, one NASA scientist believes there is more to the moon than meets the eye.According to Prabal Saxena, a planetary scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Centre, microbial life could persist in the severe circumstances found on the moon. "Relatively protected areas on airless bodies may harbour potentially habitable niches for such life," Saxena explained, as reported by Space.com. The source of this life is astonishing. If such moon bacteria exist, they most likely originated on Earth and travelled to the moon on a lunar lander! While Saxena primarily studies the potential existence of extraterrestrial life outside our sola...

Next-generation spacesuit for future NASA mission to Moon unveiled

NASA and the private aerospace company Axiom Space unveiled a prototype on Wednesday of the next-generation spacesuit that astronauts will wear on the next mission to the Moon. The suit revealed at an event at the Johnson Space Center in Houston features greater flexibility and thermal protection than those worn by the Apollo astronauts who first walked on the lunar surface more than 50 years ago. The garment has multiple protective layers, a backpack with life support systems, and lights and a high-definition video camera mounted on top of the bubble-shaped helmet. The US space agency's Artemis program aims to return humans to the Moon in late 2025 for the first time since the historic Apollo missions ended in 1972, an initial step towards an eventual voyage to Mars.Axiom Space was aw...

Europe shoots for the moon with role in NASA programme

European astronauts could walk on the Moon for the first time in the coming years, in exchange for the continent taking on a key role in an ambitious NASA space programme. The US space agency's Artemis programme aims to return humans to the Moon for the first time since the historic Apollo missions, which ended in 1972. For the first time, the European Space Agency (ESA) and European aerospace giant Airbus have been entrusted with supplying vital "service modules" (ESMs) for NASA's Orion spacecraft. In exchange, Europe has three guaranteed seats on the mission's flights, probably from 2027, although discussions are ongoing to try to get earlier spots. The role of the Europeans is vital -- they are providing "half of the spacecraft that will take people to the Moon and, of cour...

NASA high-tech spacesuits from Axiom Space for Artemis mission for walking on Moon

NASA will be sending astronauts to the Moon via its Artemis III mission. The research organisation has selected Axiom Space for the first Artemis Moonwalking Spacesuits. Check details here. NASA is gearing up to land Americans on the surface of the Moon for the first time in over 50 years with its Artemis III mission. But in order to send astronauts to outer space, the space organisation also needs spacesuits. As per the latest details, NASA has selected Axiom Space to deliver a moonwalking system for the Artemis III mission. "This award – the first one under a competitive spacesuits contract – is for a task order to develop a next generation Artemis spacesuit and supporting systems, and to demonstrate their use on the lunar...

Why go back to the Moon first and not Mars?

On September 12, 1962, then US president John F Kennedy informed the public of his plan to put a man on the Moon by the end of the decade. It was the height of the Cold War and America needed a big victory to demonstrate its space superiority after the Soviet Union had launched the first satellite and put the first man in orbit. "We choose to go to the Moon," Kennedy told 40,000 people at Rice University, "because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win." Sixty years on, the United States is about to launch the first mission of its return program to the Moon, Artemis. But why repeat what has already been done?Criticism has risen in recent years, for example from Apollo 11 astronaut Michael...

Artemis 1: Here’s what needs to go right

Artemis 1: maiden flight of spacecraft set to take humans back to the Moon – here’s what needs to go right A launch window – the period during which a rocket must be launched to reach its destination – opens on August 29 for the first flight to the Moon since 1972 by a spacecraft designed to carry humans there. If all goes well, the Artemis project will be on track to meet its goal of putting humans back on the Moon in 2025.Project Artemis, the namesake of the sister of Apollo and daughter of Zeus in ancient Greek mythology, is designed to establish a long-term human presence on our nearest celestial neighbour, and to ultimately explore even further afield. Artemis 1 is the first of several missions. It consists of Nasa's ne...

NASA Set For 2nd Attempt At Artemis 1 Lunar Launch

Artemis aims to return astronauts to the moon's surface as early as 2025.Cape Canaveral: Ground teams at Kennedy Space Center prepared on Saturday for a second try at launching NASA's towering, next-generation moon rocket on its debut flight, hoping to have remedied engineering problems that foiled the initial countdown five days earlier. The 32-story tall Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and its Orion capsule were due for blastoff from Cape Canaveral, Florida, at 2:17 p.m. EDT (1817 GMT), kicking off NASA's ambitious moon-to-Mars program Artemis program 50 years after the last Apollo lunar mission. (Graphic: https://tmsnrt.rs/3PPRsbN)The previous launch bid on Monday ended with technical problems forcing a halt to the countdown and postponement of the uncrewed flight.Tests indicated tec...
